Newsletter - Summer 2008It’s the lull before the storm at Wanaka Wastebusters, as we get ready to deal with nearly double the amount of recycling over Christmas. We’re in good heart despite the worldwide financial crisis affecting the markets for recycled materials like cardboard, aluminum and steel. Party hard and remember to recycle afterwards. Merry Christmas from all the staff at Wanaka Wastebusters ![]() Have a Green ChristmasIf you want Christmas to have less impact on the environment and your wallet this year – come into the Re-store. Our Christmas gift table has been really popular, with the items changing daily and some great bargains. You can use our recycled wrapping paper, and pick up some free gift tags too. You can also print the gift tags at home – front side and back side.
Wanaka, Recycle 50%Wanaka Wastebusters has launched the Recycle 50% campaign. The aim is for Wanaka to compost and recycle 50% of our waste. Council figures show we’re already getting to 43%, which is a great effort. Look for our top tips, free waste check-ups and other initiatives during 2009 to help Wanaka get half-way to Zero Waste.
Learn more about compostingDr Compost’s workshops have been very popular this year. Here are some tips and photos from his November workshop and some ideas on which type of composting system would suit your household. If you’re having dramas with your compost, Dr Compost can also give one-on-one composting advice by email (drcompost@wanakawastebusters.co.nz) thanks to QLDC’s generosity.
