Zero Waste Awards
The winners of the Zero Waste Awards 2008 were:
- School Award – Sponsored by Wanaka Wastebusters - $500
Winner: Glenorchy School for a comprehensive solution to every waste stream producing significant reductions in waste and re-use and recycling options.
The judges also gave special mention to the Aspiring Beginnings Early Learning Centre and Montessori Children’s house for their excellent submissions.
- Business Award – Sponsored by LLL - $500
Winner: Paul Turner Building for proactively minimising and recycling construction waste.
- Individual Award – Sponsored by the New Zealand Youth Hostel Association - $500
Winner: The Paulin-Kemp ‘bus-hold’ for a lifestyle based on waste minimisation and overall sustainability.
- Innovation Award – Sponsored by Lake Wanaka Sky Dive - $500
Winner: New Zealand Wild Walks for reducing the effects of human waste on the natural environment.
- Making it happen Award – Sponsored by Smart Environmental and QLDC - $1,000
Winner: Glenorchy School for an innovative approach to processing food waste using chickens. The money will be used to build a chicken coop!
