Christmas Recycling Collections
Recycling collection days change over the holiday period:
- Monday collections stay the same
- No collections on Xmas day or New Years day
- Tuesday collections move to Wednesday
- Wednesday collections move to Thursday
- Thursday collections move to Friday
If you’re confused, Santa will sort it out for you.
Party season
If all your guests have emptied way too many bottles and cans to fit them in your black crate, then here are your options:
- Put the extra bottles and cans in a sturdy plastic container so we can pick it up safely, and leave them out with your other kerbside recycling
- Bring them all down to the recycling centre on Ballantyne road and drop it off yourself into the appropriate bins.

Council twofer deal on Bokashi buckets
QLDC have purchased 100 Bokashi bucket sets to give away to Wanaka residents who buy another set (to run Bokashi effectively you need two bucket sets). They are still finalising details of how the scheme will work, but we will send out an email as soon as we know when and where it will happen. Bokashi bucket sets are available from the Trading Post for $44.20 or $48.70 each, and Bokashi sawdust costs $6.80 a bag.

Bokashi expert Neville Burt came to Wanaka Wastebusters in December to talk about how the composting in a bucket system works.
Recycled Art
Joanna Langford, who used to work in the Wanaka Wastebusters shop a couple of years ago, has been exhibiting her sculptures made from recycled bags and satay skewers. These three images are from exhibitions 'Down from the Nightlands' at the Sarjeant gallery in Wanganui, and 'Out of Erewhon' at the Christchurch City art gallery.
