Wanaka Wastebusters has offered business recycling collections and drop off services since 2006. More than 200 businesses recycle with us, which is amazing for a small town like ours. Nearly all our business customers say they recycle because it is good for the environment. 68% say recycling is an important part of their business philosophy and 59% say it is a way to help promote Wanaka’s clean green image.
If you need a pick-up or want to start business recycling, give our business team a call on 443-8606 ext 5 or send an email to email@example.com.
Wanaka is a seasonal town, so lots of our businesses are continually training new staff. To make it easy for you, we’ve made this A4 poster for you to print out and put up near your recycling station:
Materials we pick up are:
- plastic containers 1-7 (look on the bottom for an identification number in the recycling triangle. We do not take PLA as marked by the flower logo or PLA stamp on the bottom)
- polystyrene (white)
- used vegetable oil (free service)
- electronic waste (computers, TVs, printers, faxes, cellphones etc)
You can also drop off all those materials for recycling at our recycling centre, corner of Riverbank and Ballantyne Rd.
Most take-aways in Wanaka take advantage of our free collection service for used vegetable oil. The used vegetable oil is sent to Biodiesel New Zealand to be made into biodisesel. We buy some of it back form them to run our trucks on. They run a treat on it.
Other things you can drop off for recycling at the recycling centre:
- scrap metal
- used engine oil
- building materials
- batteries (including rechargeable eg for tools)
- printer cartridges
- reusable glass bottles (keep separate for re-use ie Emersons, Green Man, Bombay Sapphire, Waiwera water, Speights swap-a-crate).
Things we can’t recycle:
- food-contaminated paper
- food-contaminated cardboard (including coffee cups)
- PLA (a plant-based plastic identified by a PLA or flower logo on the bottom)
Dirty mixed-up recycling is no fun for anyone and it’s very hard and expensive to recycle into a high quality product. That’s why we keep our recycling streams as clean as we can, and hand-sort everything that comes back to the recycling centre
Business Recycling Collections:
We have three main options but we can tweak any of these packages to suit your business.

Special price: three bin pick-up for only $23 (excl GST)
Bars and Restaurants: Hospitality Package
Designed to handle high volumes of recycling behind the scenes. Package consists of a combination of wheelie bins (usually for glass) and fadges to handle bulk cardboard packaging and plastic containers. Wanaka Wastebusters checks the recycling station up to three times a week if needed.
Price: $11.50 per fadge or wheelie bin pick-up (excl GST)
Offices and Small Business: Office Package

Any system can be tweaked with a unique combination of wheelie bins, fadges and green sacks to suit your business.
Some businesses may find it convenient to drop off their own recycling. We can set up an account at the Wanaka Wastebusters shop for monthly invoicing. The drop off price is half the price of the standard pick-up costs, except glass which is full price.
The Wanaka Wastebusters recycling centre on the corner of Ballantyne Rd and Riverbank Rd is open 9am-5pm, seven days a week (except Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and ANZAC morning).
