Recycling centre

The heart of Wanaka Wastebusters is our recycling centre on the corner of Ballantyne Rd and Riverbank Rd.  Over 80,000 visitors come in each year to shop, recycle, drop off second-hand goods and just hang out. Our re-use shop sells everything from pre-loved designer clothes and furniture to skis and snowboards.

Households and businesses can drop off their recycling for a very small charge ($1 for every 100 litres – a bit more than a black crate).  We can also recycle metal, computers, TVs, cellphones, batteries, eco-bulbs and more – see below for a full list.

The recycling centre is open seven days a week (closed Christmas Day, Easter Friday and Anzac Day morning).

Re-store shop

The re-store shop has helped encourage a culture of re-use in Wanaka. Often people buy something and use it for a while, then drop it back to the recycling centre when they’ve finished using it. We love finding things a second home so they don’t end up being thrown out, and we love making life in Wanaka a bit more affordable.

And we especially love all the people who donate their second-hand goods to us, because they are the stars who keep the shop in business. Any money we make is put back into providing more services for our community.

0515 Eva smallMixed, dirty recycling can’t be recycled into a quality product, so the care we take keeps our business viable and means that our recycling is worthy of the name. Of course it all starts with you at home, and the effort you take to follow our recycling guidelines. We’re always blown away at high standard of recycling in Wanaka – thanks for caring.
