Simon is the person who works with the local schools and youth groups helping them along their journey towards sustainability. His role is partly funded by the solid waste department of QLDC and he uses two amazing education packages to help him do his work – Enviroschools and Zero Waste Education.
Enviroschools is a holistic programme that empowers schools and students with the skills to change the way they operate and become more sustainable. The Enviroschools kit is an amazing resource, containing many tools which will help both students and staff work out what they would like to change and then empower them to make those changes.
Simon is the human link between the schools and the kit as well as all of the other Enviroschools in the district and across the country.
The schools and youth groups we currently have engaged in the Enviroschools programme within QLDC are; Queenstown Primary, Glenorchy Primary, Remarkables Primary, Arrowtown, Wanaka Primary, Hawea Flat, Makarora Primary, Montessori Wanaka, Montessori Queenstown & Kahu Youth
The Zero Waste Education modules provide an in class teaching package on 6 areas of sustainability and zero waste; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Water, Compost and Resource Sustainability and are delivered to students between years 3 and 8.
