You can still recycle while you are on holiday!
We know that recycling is as a key environmental practice expected by visitors. We also know that recycling drop off points can be hard to find without local knowledge.
The aim of On The Road Recycling is to encourage visitors and NZ holidaymakers to make use of recycling services as they travel. This backs up the ‘100% pure’ promise that NZ makes to its visitor’s.
On The Road Recycling has 3 main strategies:
1: Branding: Providing a consistent easily recognisable brand and key messages about recycling services across New Zealand.
2: Information: Providing information about recycling services (maps, addresses, what can be recycled) in tourism publications, centres and online.
3: Practical Solution: A user-pays bag and designated drop off points to make it easy for visitors to separate and drop off their recycling.
The scheme was initially developed in Northland and has now been implemented across Otago. In Otago the scheme is supported by recycling centres and i-SITE visitor centres with financial support from Otago Regional Council, Remarkable Recyclers and Queenstown Lakes District Council.
